S Y L L A B U S --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- According guidelines the subject content exceeds the scope of 30 hours ECDL course units. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The goal of this course is to provide students with the foundations of information technologies and their use in own applications producing. OPERATING SYSTEMS Windows based environment configuration and optimalisation, file and catalog structures in different OS, system configuration files, file types and formats. Files and catalogs management. Data processing and archivising. Working in Linux/Unix systems: user shells and simple shell scripts, user's directory and own disk space management, file management, communication with other users. WEB Technologies Networking fundamentals and practice in LAN, communication protocols (FTP, TELNET, POP, SMTP), local resources exchange, information searching, WEB design. MS WORD Advanced text edition: styles, conspects, lists, tables, vocabularies, web-art gallery. Document formating: table of content, bibliography, indexes and list of illustrations generation. Templates modification and creation. Mass mailing use. Regular expression in searching. Working with outline of master and subdocuments. Assignment: Own large document formating to generate clear structure. MS EXCELL: File and worksheets, data edition using default and own lists and autofilling function. Cells and worksheets formating. Graphical representation of data - graphs. Own formulas creation and function use: Average(), MAX(), MIN(), Today(). Absolute and relative cell addresses. Logical, statistical, text and searching function. PivotTable, form creation. Worksheet as Database: filtering, sorting, advanced searching of records. Import/Export of data. Assignment: design a form with graphical represantation of data. MS POWERPOINT: Using templates of slides and presentation. Objects animation options, multimedia resources embedding, hiperlinks with external files, review and effects management, presentation optimalisation. Assignment: design a multimedial optimalised presentation. MS OUTLOOKEXPRESS User's mail and usenet profiles creating, mail management (antispam filter, import/export of address book). MS FRONTPAGE: User Interface: layout, frames, tables. Simple multimedia WEB site design. Forms and scripts. Interaction elements application: counting, rollover buttons, image galery. Assignment: Design of WEB site with form data to be redirected by PHP scripts.
