NATURE OF THE IMAGE OF THINGS (EXCERPTS)
MIROSŁAWA ROCHECKA

The nature of a painting and the nature of nature are similar. They belong to the profane sphere, to the sphere of matter - not spirit. They are "not-sacred". Their main characteristic, the essence of their existence is the existence - being itself, alive or lifeless, really present in time and space, of a particular shape, nature, function, undergoing changes or destruction, impermanent in their existence. Passing away... [...]
However, it is the nature of things, its corporality, materiality, reality, that makes a place of revelation of beauty. Nature consists of chemical elements ruled by the laws of physics. The physical and material nature of this world - delights, raises lofty feelings, when it appears as a harmonious whole, as a particular entity, superior order, harmony, and greatness. Beauty that exists in nature is adored and contemplated. It is received as a reflection of God's reality. [...]
Matter craving for Spirit seems to be ready to accept its lightest move. This is, in a sense, painting anticipation on the mystery of incarnation - human, bodily form of God, his humility, humbleness and simplicity. Painting matter is the body of a painting - imperfect and aware of own imperfection. It needs intellectual form to submit itself to its regulations. At the same time, it wants, desires - the Superior Order. It awaits the miracle of beauty's existence. Together with the whole world of nature, it misses hierophany.
