In March 1998, fifty years will have passed since the publication by Stanislaw Jaskowski (Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń) of his famous paper on logics for discussion of essential and serious inconsistencies. Together with papers by Newton da Costa, it initiated the investigation of paraconsistent logics. In the subsequent half-century, paraconsistent logic reached the maturity and influence it enjoys today, and found numerous applications.
To celebrate this remarkable anniversary, and to offer scholars - with reference to the First World Congress on Paraconsistency, Ghent, 29th July - 3rd August 1997 - an opportunity to prolong the discussion of vivid fields of paraconsistent logic with applications, the Department of Logic at Nicolaus Copernicus University is organizing the Stanislaw Jaskowski Memorial Symposium on Parainconsistent Logic, Logical Philosophy, Mathematics & Informatics. The Symposium will start on July 15 and finish on July 18, 1998.
Papers on any aspect of paraconsistency may be submitted for consideration. They may cover topics from the following (not exclusive) list:
Some workshops will to be organized as well, cf. the next section. Participants may propose that their lecture be included in one of these workshops.
Authors should submit four printed copies and an electronic version of their abstracts (ca. 1000 words) to the Stanislaw Jaskowski Symposium inquiries address by March 30, 1998. All abstracts received will be acknowledged within ten days. Authors will be informed about the acceptance of their contribution before June 1, 1998.
The papers presented to the Symposium are going to be published.in one or two volumes in Poznan Studies by Rodopi B. V.
